Many companies use their digital signage to communicate health & wellness topics, and it seems like they are on to something big.

A recent article in the Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine found that companies that invested in their employees’ health and well being had superior stock market performance. Specifically, companies that had won the C. Everett Koop National Health Award had an average 14-year stock appreciation of 325% compared with just 105% of the entire S&P 500 Index. According to the article,  an investment of $10,000 in the S&P 500 in January 2001 would have returned $20,500 in December 2014. In contrast, a similar $10,000 investment in the Koop Award portfolio would have returned $42,500.

Aside from the intriguing possible investment possibilities, the findings give those with digital signage (DS) systems the opportunity to leverage their existing H&W programs. As the study stated, “The connection between a company’s health promotion program and overall business results assumes high employee awareness of and engagement in workplace health promotion and disease prevention programs.” Your DS is the perfect vehicle for this. In my next blog I’ll give specific examples of how our customers do it.

Oh, and by the way: 57% of the Koop winners are our customers, or were when they won the award. We’re proud to be a part of better health communications, healthier employees… and the much higher company values that result.

Thanks!
