How Safe & Secure is YOUR Company?

How Safe & Secure is YOUR Company?

While reading about the horrific terrorist attack at Moscow’s Domodedovo Airport on Monday, one phrase in particular caught my attention: The airport claimed on its website that its “cutting-edge operations technology guarantees the safety of passengers’ and guests’ lives.”  Guarantees?  Sounds a little overstated to me… no safety manager I know would ever guarantee all employees’ safety 100% of the time.  Unfortunately, accidents DO happen.

This is one of those moments when all managers should stop and ask themselves about the status of workplace safety within their company.  Are managers guaranteeing employee safety at their facilities?

While the chance of a terrorist attack is remote at any given location, the chances of something happening are greater.  For instance, in our town of Wallingford, CT last week, a neighboring company had their roof cave in from all the snow we’ve had this winter.  Luckily no one was injured, but did they guarantee the safety of their employees?  Had they considered the possibility of a roof collapse?

What are we (managers) overlooking at this very moment?
