A couple of weeks ago I wrote about the benefits of digital bulletin boards. Today I’m going to write about the power that can be leveraged using these new-media devices.
We recently introduced a no-cost upgrade to our customers: the ability to add QR codes to almost any content they post. With these codes, the user can add several response mechanisms to their content that engage their employees. For example, a user might create a job posting and add a QR code. When an interested employee sees it, she’d scan it with her smartphone and be directed to a page on the company website with all the details. Or the user could set the code so that when scanned by the employee, it would open an email on her smartphone, partially filled out with the HR manager’s email address and the subject, “I’m interested in this job.” She’d then write something about why she’d be good for the job and send it off. This immediacy makes a real difference in getting employees to think and act now, as opposed to forgetting to do it, losing the correct email address, etc.
Or how about this real-world scenario: Remember a few months ago when Boeing wanted to build its 787 Dreamliner in its new Charleston plant, and the NLRB wouldn’t allow it? Imagine if Boeing had a nation-wide digital signage network with QR code capability. At first hearing about the possibility of being rejected, James McNerney, the Boeing chairman, could have sent out a memo to all the screens saying that the decision would hurt sales, profits and jobs, urging his employees to email the NLRB chairman stating their displeasure. Many of his 165,000 employees would have scanned the code, automatically opening an email on it on it pre-addressed to the NLRB chairman, written him a note, and sent it. And that chairman would have received tens of thousands of emails in favor of allowing Boeing to manufacture in that plant… all within minutes. That’s leverage…that’s power!
Think about what can you do with your digital bulletin board system… and if you don’t have any yet, check out ours.
