Many of our customers use our digital signage to help them communicate about workplace safety. They of course try to have as few accidents and injuries as possible and strive for a 100% safe work environment, especially concerning fatalities.
But is that possible?
It is in the airline industry, as reported by The Wall Street Journal on Feb 16. It cited a report from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) that said for all of 2015, there was not a single passenger fatality from a jetliner accident anywhere in the world, a goal that had been considered unreachable. The year consisted of 37.6 million flights with 3.5 billion passengers world-wide. That’s a truly amazing feat given all the different countries, airlines and types of planes involved.
While this is not strictly a workplace statistic, those involved in company safety can learn a lot by studying how the airlines, manufacturers and maintenance companies worked together to achieve this. You can see recommended safety programs on the IATA’s safety page. Although they are for the airline industry, there may be information there that you can apply to your company.
