Preventing Workplace Violence: Keep Fighting And Believe That You Are Not Going To Die

That blog title is one piece of advice from Larry Yatch, a workplace violence expert, as published earlier this week in USA Today.  The article is about the continuing problem of violence in the workplace and it points out some grim statistics, for example:

* Homicide is the fourth leading cause of fatal occupational injuries in the United States.

* In 2010 (the latest available stats), there were 506 workplace homicides.

* Homicides are the leading cause of death for women in the workplace.

Yatch gives some signs to look for.  He said a workplace’s risk level may rise if it has high turnover, a highly negative culture, disagreements or employees facing domestic violence.

The article is worth reading for other tips, such as this blog’s title. As I’ve often written about, what you display on your digital signage (DS) is a primary consideration, but managers often don’t think of sensitive subjects like violence or sexual harassment until it’s too late.

Here at Marlin we publish content on many subjects as well as provide complete turnkey workplace communication DS systems.  In the spirit of helping out on this issue, I’ve included a piece of content on workplace violence prevention that you are welcome to use in your DS (or print out and post on a bulletin board).

Prevention of violent workplace events is an area where an ounce of prevention is worth many pounds of cure.  Try using the included piece as a starting point – with our compliments.
