“The Only Way You Can Hurt The Body Is Not Use It”

I thought that was a great quote from Jack LaLanne, who died this week at 96.  In an age where many of us are sedentary, watch a lot of TV, surf the net and are addicted to our smartphones, it’s a good reminder that there’s no substitute for physical activity and a good diet.

This goes for workplace heath and wellness, too.  Healthy employees are happier, more productive, have better attendance records, and help lower medical insurance premiums.

Keeping them – and ourselves – healthy doesn’t really require any cutting-edge knowledge.  The basics of diet and exercise are the gold standards, as LaLanne talked about for decades.

I’ll end with a couple more great LaLanne quotes:

“Do you know how many calories are in butter and cheese and ice cream? Would you get your dog up in the morning for a cup of coffee and a donut?”

“I have spoken to a whole group of millionaires, head executives at Microsoft. Boy did I chew those guys out.”
