Workplace Digital Signage:  Nice to Have or Need to Have?

Workplace Digital Signage:  Nice to Have or Need to Have?

Over the last 10 years I’ve seen a huge shift in managers’ perceptions and opinions about digital signage for the workplace

Back in 2005, it was seen as a ‘nice-to-have’ product, something that could compliment the newsletters and bulletin boards of the time.  The ‘nice-to-have’ moniker was further degraded by the newness of the technology; managers would say things like, “Oh sure, I’d like to have a plasma display on the wall for posting communication, but they’re so expensive!  What will my employees think when I hang a $7,000 screen in the cafeteria?” In other words, it was hard to justify, especially because companies were still using many other methods to communicate.

Fast forward 10 years.

Thumb-tacking employee announcements on a cork board seems ancient today.  And the monthly printed-out employee newsletter?  Relegated to the dust bin of history.  Today, communicating digitally has become a practice that most companies are either doing or considering.

According to a national study we just commissioned, over half the companies contacted said they are currently using some type of visual digital workplace communications. And of the ones that aren’t, most are looking to do so.  In other words, digital workplace communications is no longer a ‘nice-to-have’, but is becoming a ‘need-to-have.’ Why?

Managers now realize that digital communications are faster, cheaper and more effective than print in getting their ideas across to employees.  And this especially applies to companies with multiple locations; getting the company’s message spread across the enterprise in a uniform, interesting and timely (minutes, not days) manner is key to creating engagement with the employees, with all the resulting benefits.

This is what we do at The Marlin Company.  We invented the original products in this area and still develop new ones 24/7. As a matter of fact, it’s ALL we do – we don’t make airport, retail, QSR or sports arena digital software products.  Only workplace.

So if you’re looking to communicate digitally with your employees down the hall or around the world, you need to call us and find out how the company that invented the industry standard does it.
